Description

The building was built in 1895, designed by architects Alfonso Guerra and Luigi Ferrara, and was to be used as the headquarters of the Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Handicrafts and Agriculture. Architecturally, the building body consists of three floors with a neo-Renaissance style facade, in which pilasters and columns are grafted. The entrance, preceded by a flight of steps, is flanked by a number of bronzes depicting lions ridden by winged genii, the work of Luigi de Luca, allegorically representing "Genius Mastering Strength." The portal, moreover, is framed between two columns that support the balcony above. This structure,is repeated with the windows of the upper floors, which,in the central body ends with a bas-relief decoration,on either side of which we find the attic windows, interspersed with statues supporting the cornice. Inside, the large central hall stands out with lunettes decorated with allegorical figures, the work of Gustavo Mancinelli, Gaetano Esposito, Vincenzo Migliaro, Alceste Campriani, Salvatore Postiglione, Salvatore Cozzolino, Gaetano d'Agostino and Giovanni Diana, and with stucco work by Ciro Sannino and Vincenzo Belligiono. On the second floor, the great hall, features statues by sculptor Giuseppe del Fico
